Forman Christian College (FCC), located in the heart of Lahore, is one of the oldest institutions of the country. Famous as the College of Gentlemen and run the by American Presbyterian Church, it has a unique atmosphere and Formanites are proud to call it their second home.
FCC is a place you won’t like at first because it’s so different than any other institute you’ve ever been to, but once you get used to of the fancy words like Baccalaureate, Armacost Building and The Information Commons, you will totally fall in love with it!
1. The S-Block to E-Block Commute
The campus is huge. The two main buildings that you shuffle classes in are miles apart and every Formanite hates the long walk between the Elahi building and the Armacost building, four times a day, with just a 15-minute gap between classes. But hey, you mostly get away with coming a few minutes late to the class!
2. The New Cafe
The new cafe is so far away from the educational blocks that you just end up pretending that you aren’t even hungry. Or if you do end up having lunch there, by the time you reach E block, you are hungry again.
3. The Open Cafe:
You miss the open cafe even now because nothing will ever come closer to being a better place to hang out in winters and even though the new cafe is a lot better but it doesn’t serve those amazing batter fries!
4. The Cultural Diversity
FCC has students from all over the country and abroad. The number of Balochis, Pathans, Gilgitis, Wazirs and Punjabis will guarantee you the best cultural diversity and you will listen to four different languages just on your way to class.
5. Make your own class schedule
The “like a boss” thing about FCC is that every student gets to choose their own courses, their own instructors and their own time tables. There are no forced enrollments and you get to design your own degree.
6. The Security
The amount of security checks that the students and outsiders have to go through every single day makes you feel like you’re about to enter Area 51 or Quantico.
7. Cheryl Burke
The Dean of Students, Cheryl Burke, is an American and she has an amazing sense of humor that makes you feel like she came right out of a sitcom. And her dog is the cutest thing on campus.
The best event that happens on campus is the 4-day MUN. With the delegate numbers up to a whopping 1000, it is great to make new friends and enjoy a great debate. Apart from this, being on the host team is an honor for most Formanites.
9. The Campus
The campus is beautiful and you cannot help but admire the lush green grounds, the immaculate architecture and the amazing arboreal heritage.
10. Unique Names
You know you are in FC when you name places by the shape they look like. The E-Square is actually a square and the S-Octa an octagon. You are cool because you have a London Bridge and Cape Town on campus.
11. Foreign Faculty
You know you’re a Formanite when you are used to all sorts of English accents because instructors from all over the world, USA, Germany and even Korea are on the faculty.
12. Smokers on campus
The number of cigarette butts you will find around and near London Bridge is more than Tendulkar’s test runs. Its like the whole campus smokes (not).
13. The Gangs
You know you’re from FC when you have gone from a huge multi-culture group to ultra-cool group of friends in your Freshman year to finally settling down with a few best friends in your Senior year because you just don’t have the time or energy to socialize with all of them.
14. The Fights
You have witnessed at least one person getting their ass kicked in the main ground.
15. ‘The Ground’
Formanites share that one HUGE ground for all kinds of sports. After 4 PM in a fall semester, you can watch football, cricket, rugby, and volleyball… all being played in the same ground.
16. The Society Elections
The annual society elections are a huge affair! The politics you witness is like House of Cards. The air is filled with whispers and people act like Whips until the final day of the elections.
17. Library & Summers
The library is your go-to place in summers and you have been kicked out of there at least once in your life because you were too loud and were only there for the Air Conditioning.
18. Open Mics
This one is for the 14, 15 and 16 series people who loved the Open Mic Nights and waited for them to happen. Later on, we only just missed how good they were because they weren’t as nice as in the earlier days.
19. Movie Screenings
Movie screenings in S-009 are like being in the cinema but only better because you are with your best friends.
20. Intermediate Students and their shenanigans
Being a university student, you will never like Inter boys ruining your events and acting like hooligans.
