As soon as the Olympics started in Rio, Brazil, the excited fans started sharing GIFs on the social media. But to their dismay a ban has been placed on Olympic GIFs by the International Olympic Committee.
The opening ceremony of the grand event was aired on Friday night. When it was shown on TV, many took to their Twitter accounts and started posting Olympic GIFs. But ever since a ban was placed on them, the social media has gone quiet.
Twitter, which is famous for discussions on live events and for updated videos, was left with nothing when this ban was imposed. People were talking about the event but nobody could share the clips. The rule was instigated because the International Olympics Committee wanted everyone to watch the official footage. It was reported that NBC has paid around $1.2 billion to show the Olympics live. Therefore, such a harsh ban has been applied.

This is the first time in history that such a ban has been ordered. Twitter is a place where people can share whatever they feel; they post the moments they enjoy by sharing video clips too. But this prohibition by the board has taken away their entertainment from them.

A rules dictated by the Olympics read: “The use of Olympic Material transformed into graphic animated formats such as animated GIFs (i.e. GIFV), GFY, WebM, or short video formats such as Vines and others, is expressly prohibited.”

But people didn’t just stop there. Although they were prohibited from sharing Olympic GIFs, they took their revenge by sharing all sorts of GIFs on social media. Their reaction was so huge that the news feed on Twitter was filled with GIFs entirely.
The fans were furious about this new rule and have shown that they do not support it. They kept talking about random stuff and mentioned Olympics in their posts to reveal their feelings. Following are some other GIFs people shared:
